Het hoofdthema van deze compositie bestaat uit drie re's, analoog aan het thema 3D - vandaar ook de titel. De componist, die al lang graag een ritmisch stuk wilde schrijven, koos voor 9/8 onderverdeeld in 3-2-2-2. Het stuk start met een achtervolging, die naar het midden toe wat stil valt om dan weer in volle actie verder te gaan. De luisteraar krijgt de vrijheid om zijn eigen verhaal te fantaseren op de muziek.
Benjamien Lycke is a Belgium/London based composer. His work includes many styles and projects, ranging from soundtracks and arrangements for (award winning) short films, commercials and games (i.e. Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, Syndicate), over contemporary classical concert-music to full featured musicals/operas (three of which he conducted himself in the musical-theatre Capitole Ghent and the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall London) and from acoustic to electronic music. Recent and future engagements include writing for The Flemish Symphonic Orchestra, The Flemish National Classical Radio (Klara), Music Hall, Concertgebouw Brugge, The Chamber Players (BE), Kugoni Trio and many more. His music has been played all over the world from Europe to the USA and Japan.
He studied with David Anne and obtained both his Bachelor and Master in Music Composition at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent (Belgium) with Lucien Posman. As graduation project he wrote, composed and produced the opera ACUBENS which was broadcast on Belgian national television (VRT). In London he graduated as a postgraduate scholar in Composing for Screen at The Royal College of Music with Joseph Horovitz, Francis Shaw and Simon Holt.
With creative peers he founded SynArt (http://synart.eu), a non-profit organisation which has as its objective to create contemporary artworks (on-stage performances and concerts) through a synergy of different art forms. This resulted into their first opera-like production: MONU a multimedia requiem of war, in context of the commemoration of World War 1 staged Concertgebouw Brugge (Belgium). With librettist and stage-director Mien Bogaert he has a long-standing collaboration on many projects. Together they wrote a chamber opera based on Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment, which was premiered in London (Britten Theatre), directed by Bill Bankes-Jones and conducted by Lionel Friend. In the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg (Germany) they premiered CYCLOPS conducted by Justus Tennie, an opera inspired by the refugee crisis telling the story of a young Syrian refugee and a Bulgarian migrant hunter (based on true events). Mien also directed PUCK (London), a new composed opera by Benjamien Lycke and Mahlon Berv with libretto by Laura Attridge, based on Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream. Benjamien is also involved as composer and visual programmer in performances by choreographer Talitha De Decker (Tinkling I, SNAP XL) continuing their fruitful collaboration from past projects as MONU and PUCK. Benjamien is currently working on the debut feature film of Michaël Vermaercke ‘Memento Mori’ (premiere February 2018) and is working closely with director Youness Benali on advertisement and fashion projects (i.e. Chanel).
